You turn on the TV, go to any channel, and you see commercials. Commercials that, always portray happy, complete, families. Families that are always smiling, always happy, are never irritated. Now this makes me wonder, why do they make families, the basic unit of society, seem so happy? Call me a pessimist if you will, but for now, humor me. Its common knowledge that, in households these days, it’s the children (youth) that has control of the remote, and more specifically, the television. They spend more time watching TV than studying or playing. And more often than not, they see these advertisements that show something that, in my opinion, isn’t always true. Yes, a family should be happy and complete, and though it’s hard to admit, it doesn’t always turn out that way. My concern regarding this matter is, young as they may be all this on television doesn’t necessarily prepare them for the extremely harsh realities of life. They are children, yes and should not be exposed to such things just yet. But for me, I it only heightens the fall that they must inevitably take one day. I for one can attest to that. When I little by little learned how harsh this life can be, it all came as a shock to me, because I wasn’t prepared for all this. Now, my point for saying all this, is that the media, should at least, in their own little way, help in the upbringing of the child especially in the matters stated above.
